Community Guidelines
VMDB is only as useful as the reports it contains. These guidelines help keep the database accurate and fair for everyone. If something isn't covered here, use the feedback form to reach the team.
Submitting Reports
- → Only report what you have actually tested. Do not submit reports for games you have not run yourself inside a VM.
- → Be accurate with your rating. Use the rating that honestly reflects your experience — Platinum means no issues at all, Borked means the game does not run. When in doubt, choose the lower rating.
- → Include as much detail as possible. Specify your VM software version, CPU, GPU, RAM, and any settings or tweaks you applied. The more context you provide, the more useful your report is to others.
- → One report per VM type per game. You may submit separate reports for different VM types (e.g. one for VMware, one for QEMU/KVM), but do not submit duplicate reports for the same setup.
- → No spam, no fake reports. Deliberately false or misleading reports will be removed and may result in a ban.
Voting
- → Upvote reports that are helpful and accurate. Vote based on the quality of the information, not on whether you agree with the rating.
- → Downvote reports that are inaccurate or unhelpful. If a report is missing critical information, clearly wrong, or written in bad faith, a downvote is appropriate.
- → Do not coordinate votes. Vote manipulation — organizing others to mass-upvote or mass-downvote specific reports — is not allowed.
Flagging Reports
- → Flag reports that clearly violate these guidelines. Good reasons to flag: the report is spam, contains deliberately false information, or has been submitted for the wrong game.
- → Do not flag because you disagree with a rating. A different experience is not a reason to flag — use the downvote instead.
- → Add context when flagging. A short explanation of what is wrong helps the moderation team act quickly and accurately.
Adding Games
- → Use the Steam import tool when possible. It fills in title, developer, publisher, and release year automatically, keeping the database consistent.
- → Only add real, released games. Do not add placeholders, demos (unless they have a separate Steam page), or games that are not yet available.
Account Conduct
- → One account per person. Creating multiple accounts to bypass bans or to inflate vote counts is not allowed.
- → Do not impersonate others. Do not use a username that is intended to mislead others into thinking you are another user or a member of the team.
Legal & Compliance
- → No piracy or illegal content. VMDB documents compatibility — it does not support, promote, or facilitate the unauthorized distribution of games or software. Do not link to or reference pirated copies in any report or comment.
- → Respect copyright and trademarks. Game titles, logos, and other assets belong to their respective rights holders. VMDB uses them solely for identification purposes under fair use.
- → Privacy and data protection. VMDB complies with applicable data protection laws (including GDPR). Do not include personal data — your own or anyone else's — in reports, notes, or usernames.
- → No harmful or illegal content. Content that is defamatory, harassing, discriminatory, or otherwise illegal under applicable law is strictly prohibited and will be removed immediately.
- → VMDB operates within the law. As an operator of this platform we are bound by applicable laws. Content that would expose VMDB to legal liability — including but not limited to copyright infringement, defamation, or illegal trade — will be removed and the account suspended.
Enforcement
Reports and accounts that violate these guidelines may be removed or banned without prior notice. Repeated or severe violations result in a permanent ban. If you believe a moderation decision was made in error, contact the team via the feedback form.
